The D.C. Pubic School System

As you know, Michelle Rhee was on the cover of TIME Magazine this week. That's a pretty prominent national newsmagazine.

If you haven't read the article, I recommend it. It's moderately interesting and gives a little bit of a glimpse into just how bad the schools here really are.

But anyhow, the story talks a bit about Anacostia High School, and discusses some improvements Rhee has made.

Now, I don't know, if a high school is going to be mentioned in a story that will be read around the country... you might want to make sure that the web site of the high school didn't have horribly embarassing typos on it. Perhaps? Maybe?

Well, if you ended up at the Anacostia High School Web Site you'd be able to read all about Michelle Rhee's Mission Statement for the Pubic Schools of the District of Columbia.

I'd like to hope that this actually isn't a typo, and is some sort of stab at Rhee for firing the princpal of Anacostia High. Somehow that seems doubtful.

  1. I'm too tipsy from lunch to see the major proofreading error but in American English we say "toward" rather than "towards."

First of all. I have a couple of other minor proofreading marks but.... help me out here.

  2. It should also read, "...and TO generate...."

  3. PUBIC. PUBIC.

You have Pubic Hair. You go to a Public School.

  4. On the faculty page, it seems they have more teachers dedicated to Special Ed (14) than to Math & Science...combined (6).

I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere -- one that has a punchline containing both "ghetto" and "douche."

  5. And why again are you on a public high school's website?

  8. When I was in 9th grade I found this exact typo on the front page of the school newspaper.

    And I went to B-CC....

  9. Bwahaha. Good luck fixing DC's schools with that kind of attention to detail, Michelle Rhee!

  10. I just laugh and laugh at all the typo's and improper grammar in the media. Not that I'm perfect but by god they SHOULD BE

  11. That whole web site just screams "abandon all hope, all ye who attend this school."

From the illiterate and ungrammatical text, to the sad roll-call of the remedial-level faculty, the un-military thug-like posturing in the JROTC photo, and the we-got-bored-so-we-quit-in-the-middle school history write-up, the site tells you everything you need to know about how well it prepares its charges for success in life.

--Darrin Stevens, as I said, I was drinking heavily at lunch. And what is the reason Justice Thomas is on the Supreme Court, again? What the reason?

  15. And I'm sure Michelle Rhee is also copy-editing the Web site, in addition to her other duties.

  16. I think her heart is in the right place. Now if we could just get her an admin that didn't go to DC public schools.

That was a joke. Or is the joke on you? It it obvious to me that you were not old enough to watch Justice Thomas' confrimation hearings. He was accused of sexual harassment by Anita Hill. In her testimony she alledged that Thomas asked her was that a PUBIC hair on coke can. Whew youngins.

    You're excused M@tt.

  19. M@, this is your future rapist calling.

I was living in DC and making more money than you are now, at the time of the C. Thomas confirmation hearings. The Coke can thing was indeed a joke on you.

    Fuck you later,

    ARNL

  20. Yeah, I was a minor when all of that went down but... I read the newspapers. I remember it.

ARNL, you sound like an aging lesbian.

  22. That is beyond awesome. The best part is now, three days later, nobody seems to have seen fit to fix it. With any luck it will remain like that for months.

  23. It is just so much easier to move out of this hell hole than to try to make a change, really.
