I'm Pretending This Is Less Unsettling Than It Really Is

My last post wasn't my best. I mean, some crazy disheveled guy making violent threats on U Street on Saturday night. Yeah, it's kind of scary, but, come on, it's U Street. I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. It's not like someone is going to get shot dead on the U Street strip, right?

Wrong!

All we get from the article is a hypothesis that the shooting resulted from an argument and the block where the shooting occurred. Of course it's the same block where I heard that argument over the weekend. The Post doesn't have a picture of the perpetrator. If it's the guy from Saturday night, one could say that I actually dodged a bullet. City living is the best!

  1. If you hear anyone on U Street threatening gun violence than that is at the very least a Code Orange-level threat. Act accordingly.

  2. I am not surprised by anything anymore. I've lived here just 1 1/2 months and someone smashed my car window Saturday night and stole three 30-pound boxes of cat litter I just bought and left on the back seat, thinking no one would want it.

  4. I frequent U Street constantly...I go to Oohhs & Aahhs, Love Cafe and Ben's. It scares the mess out of me that that happened so close to where I go.

    DC is not safe!

  5. Re not calling the cops,

Yeah I know. I didn't take it very seriously. I don't think most people would have.

If the perp and the threatener are one and the same (still doubtful), I will feel terrible.

  6. and your call to 911 would have probably resulted in a busy signal or at best "please hold. your call is very important to us"...

  8. question - weren't you out at this area at night?

the article says the shooting took place around 3:30 p.m.

then you wouldn't have to feel so bad.

  10. why can't everybody own guns?
Then people like that would be too scared to do that anymore.

  11. LET ME ADD A FEW WORDS OF WISDOM TO THIS MOSTLY TRANSPLANT CONVERSATION

MURDERS HAVE HAPPENED ON U STREET LONG BEFORE THIS

JUST BECAUSE YOU FUCKERS DID NOT LIVE HERE BACK THEN DOES NOT MEAN SHIT

BACK IN THE 300+ 400+ MURDERs A YEAR DAYS PEOPLE WERE GETTING SHOT EVERYWHERE LEFT AND RIGHT

EVEN INSIDE METRO STATIONS AND ON METROBUSES TOO

ONE YEAR SOME FUCKTARD EVEN OPENED FIRE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE WHITE HOUSE WITH AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY IN FRONT OF ALL OF THE TOURISTS

WE ARE SAFE NOWHERE IN THIS CITY

SOMETHING YOU FUCKING TRANSPLANTS SHOULD HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH ON BEFORE YOU MOVED HERE

THE CITY IS AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT NOT SOME FUCKING PEACEFUL PREPPY WHITE SUBURB KIDS SKATEBOARDING DOWN THE SIDEWALK SWIMMING POOL IN THE BACKYARD TYPE OF BULLSHIT

THIS CITY WAS NOT NAMED THE MURDER CAPITAL JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT

  12. I hate defending Washington, but, the DC you describe is almost twenty years old. If it weren't for us transplants you'd still be ass deep in corpses.

The DC I live in has 150-200 murders a year. Still too high, but nothing like the DC of the 80s and 90s.

  14. The guy shooting at the white house was fairly recent. Not 20 years ago more like 6 or 7 years ago. Somebody managed to capture part of it on home video.
