A Reminder of a Grim Alternative

I complain an awful lot about the subway, but I should give it a break. Why? Because the subway is not a bus.

Today I helped a friend move into a luxurious apartment building on Connecticut Avenue. Instead of taking my usual Red Line trip to Tenleytown, I walked past Dupont Circle to catch the L line.

I waited outside in the sun for 27 minutes. It was a grim reminder of my Massachusetts Avenue days when I was dependent upon N line buses that would often fail to show up on time. I almost forgot what it was like to wake up 30 minutes earlier than necessary due to the probability of a bus not showing up. That sucked then. I imagine it still sucks now.

  1. I'll tell you a secret. Under my sister's rule, we're closer to being condemned than luxurious.

  2. It may be time to invest in a car. Although I had one when I was in DC, and I could have written a whole "Why I Hate DC Traffic / Parking" blog.

  3. I still have to put your blog on my site. Sorry for not doing it already, but, you know, lazy.

  4. Um, I'm from Cape Cod, not Boston. So I'd rather be at the beach.

Move, if you hate it so much. And good riddance.

A lot of us hate it here, but it's not that easy to just pick up and "move" you dumbass fuckwads. I'm only here because of my job, and EVERY person in my office hates this stinking shithole almost as much as I do. We have a right to bitch; if you don't like it -- don't read the blog.

My thing is get the fuck over it. Start a nice little I Hate DC club and drink your worries away. Put less energy into hating the place and more into having fun. Do it before your dark little heart shrivels to nothing and you can't remember what fun is.

That does not go for you Rusty as I think you take some of the things you hate with a grain of salt once you've discussed them on here. You seem like you know how to have a good time and not really let this or any city get you down.

You hit the nail on the head, boyo. Leaving is a burdensome expense, and unfortunately there are few or no geopolitical jobs in most of the splendid West Coast cities. Living in Silver Spring, where I was assaulted and had my bike stolen in 2 separate acts, is a high price to pay for having a job.
