This afternoon @dcfireems tweeted about a shooting in Southwest D.C. The message text was:shooting - 1300 blk I st SW - 2 victims Priority 1 - serious and life-threatening transp to hosp PD investigatingAs far as I know, and I could be wrong, there is no 1300 block of I Street, SW. Or the shooting was on a boat located at an estimated location of 1300 I Street, SW.
Perhaps they meant the 1300 block of 1st Street. Or maybe it was in SE? There's not really a 1300 block in Southeast either. Was it downtown? I think we'd see more coverage if it was at 13th and I NW.
Remember folks, this is the same @dcfireems that will keep you informed in the event of a nuclear blast.
UPDATE: WUSA9 is parroting the incorrect tweet:
WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- Two men were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting on the 1300 block of Eye Street SW.At this point, with the reference to N St SW, I'll speculate the shooting was actually in the 1300 block of 1st Street SW. Way to fact check, WUSA9.
DC Police say the shooting occurred at approximately 1:15 PM. They say they found one man at the above location and a second man was found shot in the neck in the alley way off N Street SW.
Police say they still don't have a motive for the shooting but they are looking for a black male, wearing a black hoodie, and blue jeans,
Police also recovered a weapon at the scene.

@WUSA9 @dcfireems I'm pretty sure you all mean the 1300 block of 1st Street SW. Because 1300 Eye Street SW doesn't exist.

How did everyone else do? Well, WJLA sort of gets it right, they say "Southwest" in the headline. But then they report the address as the 1300 block of 1st Street NW.
It is a transient city with a sizable population of "locals" who are poorly socialized, poorly educated, and who hold positions of responsibility based upon social promotion, affirmative action, and a dearth of qualified labor willing to take said positions of responsibility.

It was 1300 First street SE. (near N) I was walking by there from the Safeway (ironic) at 1:30 this afternoon and heard about five or six shots.

ReplyDeleteMy family has lived in the same neighborhood in DC for 200 years and none of us were ever on public assistance or anything like it.
To say that all of DC is "transient"- unless- and this is what you really mean- otherwise- poor & Black- is outrageous. Trouble is- you are transient ,probably live in N.W., and have not lived here long enough to really get to know who lives here.

Second, look up the definition of the word "transient". It means people are passing through. Now see if you can grasp the implicatons for the city. Yes, people are passing through; they don't take the time or expend the effort to invest of themselves in this city. DC is indeed a transient city.
Third, "locals" are the product of the DC public school system. (do we need to rehash DCPS here?) "Locals" carry the HIV virus in numbers unseen elsewhere in the Western world. "Locals" are incarcerated in numbers disproportionate to the city's population. "Locals" are the people shooting each other, dealing drugs, and prostituting themselves on the city's streets. "Transients" are not doing those things - But they bring their own brand of social diseases to the city.
Fourth, no way has your family lived in the "same neighborhood in DC for 200 years." You're an ass to even make such an assertation.
Fifth, your assumptions about where I live and how long I've lived here are completely erroneous.
