I probably should have mentioned this yesterday, but, oh well. All of the 9:30 Club staff was forced to work the Virgin Fest. I don't really have a problem with that. I do have a problem with the Club refusing to pay for travel or lodging expenses. You'd think the profit margins being reaped on six dollar bottles of Yuengling would afford these guys some goodwill, but, no.

Oh, if you couldn't find or afford a place to stay, they'd let you camp out in a tent at the Merriweather Post Pavilion a mere 20 miles away. Because showers are for suckers.

Ok, I know that these people got into a $200 music festival for free. If you're a big Police fan, this is a great deal. If you don't care for any of the bands that played Pimlico, this is a fucking travesty. You lose your weekend and you lose money out-of-pocket for little luxuries like a roof over your head and, assuming you don't have a car, a train ride. Weak.

  1. Like someone posted yesterday, 90% of the bands who played at the Virgin Fest this past weekend SUCK.

  2. So it would be especially sucky to spend your weekend there against your will with no one covering expenses.

  3. Whatever -- even if you liked the bands that played, your job shouldn't force you to drop $100 on a hotel room or CAMP OUT.

The 9:30 club can do better than that.

  7. if you don't like the way your current employer treats you, get a new job.

    it's that easy.

  8. My response would have been:

    Dear Employer:

Eat the shit out of my ass! No, I'm not paying for expenses that are related to my work, because you're too much of a cunt to do so.

[Quite possibly the blandest post ever]

Come on Rusty, you can do better than this post! I believe in you!!

Sadly, a thought did come to mind on this rather dull topic. I don't think the 930 Club employees should bitching AT ALL. Let’s see….930 Club employees:

    • Get to come to work at 6pm most days, leaving the daytime free
    • Likely have flexible schedules that fit’s their wannbe edgy-rocker-hipster lifestyles outside the corporate/government molded careers most in this city have
    • Get to see more bands than they can probably count and/or remember
    • Likely get to meet a fair amount of these acts before and after the show
    • Don’t have the hardest jobs in the world anyway. What standing by a door taking tickets is hard? Sitting your ass in a box office is strenuous?

So once in a while they have to go pull double duty at Pimlico or Merriweather? That sounds like an even trade to me. Boo-fucking-hoo, I'm shedding crocodile tears for the 930 employees right now!!!!! If they don’t like it, then they should go get a real job like everyone else. Case closed. I suppose we should next pity the poor police officers that are forced to sit on their asses, collecting overtime, during “All Hands on Deck” simply because they are officers? This post was pretty weak.

  10. • Get to come to work at 6pm most days, leaving the daytime free
-- most of us work DAY JOBS TOO, you dumb shit. the club is supplementary income / a place to hang out / see free shows

    • Likely have flexible schedules that fit’s their wannbe edgy-rocker-hipster lifestyles outside the corporate/government molded careers most in this city have
-- have you seen the employees of the 930 club? we are not edgy or hipster. we are tattooed and old and not in the best physical shape. we stand by the venue because it's the best in the country and it's independently owned.
    • Get to see more bands than they can probably count and/or remember
-- yeah, we get to see a lot of bands. it rules. it's the reason most of us have been there for so long.
    • Likely get to meet a fair amount of these acts before and after the show
    -- no we don't. it's bad protocol.
    • Don’t have the hardest jobs in the world anyway. What standing by a door taking tickets is hard? Sitting your ass in a box office is strenuous?
-- we have to deal with drunk bullshit all god damn night -- answer your dumb questions and babysit you. it's not an easy job. fuck off, dc dude.

  11. Fuck VIRGIN FEST and THE 9:30 CLUB!

Van Halen has just announced they are reuniting and touring this fall. Perfoming in major arenas and not some shitty little run down club or bullshit racehorse track.

  16. You won't want to go when you realize that it's $30.

$30. For Hanson. At the 9:30 Club. Do I get a free ass-licking with that, too? I'd better.
