WUSA 9, the local CBS affiliate, will be airing footage of rodent infestations in three DC restaurants at 4:30pm. Obviously, I'll be at work. I'd love for someone to Tivo this and put the money shots of the rodents up on YouTube so we can all share in the grossness.
"Inside Edition found the disease-carrying vermin dancing in the alleys and leaping out of trashcans behind restaurants," according to the show's news release. "They even found some nesting inside parked cars."
One of the closed down restaurants is the Baja Fresh at 1333 New Hampshire Avenue. That's the same address as The Front Page and Buffalo Billiards. Just letting you know so you don't get rat feces in your buffalo wings.
Speaking of vermin in DC eateries, I leave you with a picture a reader sent me of a gigantic rat in the 14th Street Manny and Olga's. Bon Appetit.

Ew. That Manny and Olga's always looked pretty grody to me, as well as most of the other food places close by.
ReplyDeleteOMG. that is so sick.
ReplyDeletei *just* tried manny and olga's pizza for the first time like 2 weeks ago... but i got it from tenleytown.
the pizza was awful, by the way. duccini's is infinitely better.
And... the rats were wearing laynards!
ReplyDeleteI once saw a rat somehow squish his body to fit under the closed door at Manny and Olga's. Appetizing.
ReplyDeleteVideo and pics of the story here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.insideedition.com/ourstories/inside_stories/story.aspx?storyid=704 blech!
Adams Morgan is the Rat Capital of DC. I have seen so many rats scurry on the streets and alleys of Adams Morgan that I have lost count.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of us in the office where i used to work near that Manny & Olga's on 14th would get their Crazy Tuesday pizza deal. One Tuesday, we were all eating together in the lunch room, more than half way done with the food, when i found a tuft of rat hair on the underside of the crust. we totally got our money back and never went there again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a CRAZY TUESDAY that must have been! [barf]
ReplyDeleteRat hair in your pizza? That little guy isn't a health problem, he's a topping!
ReplyDeleteAw crap, they nailed Mixtec? I love that place, too. Hopefully they clean it up.
ReplyDeletehaha, this is great - my roommate goes there all the time.

ReplyDeleteHey maybe that's their pet ferret or something?! We were having lunch at the Clarendon Grill last fall, the weekend of Clarendon Day to be exact, and saw a mouse (not a rat) scurrying under our booth and headed towards the bar with much ferocity. He must be an Arlington resident!
