Mixed Signals

These signs have been like this for two weeks and no one has bothered to fix it. That sign of government inefficiency is bad enough. The problem is exacerbated by my failure to notice which blinking sign is telling me to walk before jauntily walking into oncoming traffic. Brandywine and Wisconsin will be the death of me yet. I would hate to become another statistic.

  1. You should fake your suicide in service of making DC's government look bad.

  3. You are a pedestrian. You always have the right of way. Don't worry, everyone will stop.

  4. There is something similar turning onto Reno from Nebraska. As a driver the old light (which hasn't been removed since the construction was complete) blocks the new light from view. As a result people don't know that there is a right turn arrow.

  5. The gov't may be efficient but they are not all-seeing - have you bothered to notify anyone that something needs to be fixed? Take some iniative - Call 311.

  6. I boycotted 311 after an incident when I was in college.

I was walking to my apartment off of Ward Circle after a long night of drinking when I noticed that Nebraska Avenue was flooding. Apparently a water main broke outside the Swedish Embassy. I called 311 and told them there was a break outside of 3900 Nebraska Avenue, NW. Gave her the zipcode and everything.

The operator said there was no such address and hung up on me. Fuck 311.

  7. Porter St. eastbound from Connecticut Ave NW has three (3) 30mph speed limit signs all within 5 feet of each other.

    This city is retarded.

  8. If you want to talk to me about government inefficiency, why don't you come back up to Boston? Although I have not been in DC for any extended period of time, so I don't know if the quasi-"banker's hours" and "make work" attitudes prevail so much more down there than they do up here.

  9. Hm mm Ward Circle. That would lead me to believe that "rusty" went to American University. Ah, maybe lived off campus at the apartments at 4201 Mass. Avenue I wanna say the Berkshire, maybe?

Not that this is always the reason, but many times, many, many times your beloved Metro buses will hit the sign's when turning at an intersection causing the signs to look like the picture posted.

lol oh yea I want to post this bright quote. This will actually be a free CYA for all of you to make a note of.

HRH King Friday XIII let me ask you a question. This isn't to pick on you, but will teach you and others a little something about traffic enforcement! Do you know why all those signs are there?

The reason, and I think and pretty much know your talking about the 2500 Block of Porter Street, just east of Conn. Ave. The reason all those signs are posted are because we do photo camera speed enforcement there. Yay!!!! The reason the signs are posted that frequent are so that Joe Blow can't show up with his polished lawyer and say " I didn't know what the speed limit was, where is it posted"? All those speed limit signs increase are chances of winning any disputes.

Oh here is a free tip for everyone. When your on the beltway, 95N/S, 495, or even some main roads in the surrounding county's. Always expect to see a state trooper, county police officer, etc... to be running radar just after a speed limit posted sign. Because you guessed it, yes so that they have a better case in court that you passed the speed limit sign at mile marker 29 before entering there speed trap.

  12. Fordham Rd. NW and Mass. Ave. NW, right across the street from AU's law school, has a similar problem that has been there since about March.
