TOTALLY NOT DC RELATED.

  3. Steeler fans will outnumber Cardinals fans by, oh I dunno, maybe 70,000 to one.

A lot of them live in Florida anyway, among other places. Because Pittsburgh is such a filthy shithole.

  5. No it won't. DC will.

America's misery is always Washington's gain.

  6. Pittsburgh is a stinking toilet.

It's been losing population for half a century for a reason.

Steeler fans are passionate because they've got nothing left to cling to (aside from guns, religion and anti-immigrant bigotry).

Plus, Primanti Bros is shit, their meat is from Ohio river rats.

  8. Pittsburgh IS in fact a toilet. But there's nothing wrong w/ questioning the orthodoxy of unmitigated mass immigration from Third World nations.

  9. I like Pittsburgh, it's gotten better over the years, but to say that it's going to have the last laugh is stupid. Just b/c it was a booming manufacturing town in the past doesn't mean that it'll be one in the future when we'll be looking to manufacture different things and things like business taxes and labor is more competitive. That's like saying Detroit is going to have the last laugh.

  10. no, but with UPMC and the fact that PNC Bank looks like it might be one of the very few solvent banks... Pitt is in a good position.

They already had to retool themselves after the collapse of the steel sector, and they never really experienced the housing boom the way a lot of other places did.

Pittsburgh definitely wasn't great during the boomtimes, but it's not going to be hit as hard during the bad times... so overall, it might come out of this in better shape than other places. Much better shape than Detroit.

  12. Pittsburgh's economy has been much more resilient than most other rust belt cities, but that's not setting a high standard. They were able to wean themselves off steel and reinvent themselves. it was a painful process in the 80s, but one that Denver, Cleveland, Buffalo etc. never got around to.

But whatever. DC's still a worse shithole because we've got money pouring in from all sides here, so we've got no excuse.

  13. By "Denver," I meant "Detroit."

DC's overall shittiness caused me to fuck that up.

  15. Not the first person I've seen cite UPMC as Pittsburgh's great economic asset. Makes perfect sense, seeing as how the Cleveland Clinic and Hopkins/Maryland have made Cleveland and Baltimore shining cosmopolitan metropolises.

  16. When I moved from Washington DC to Pittsburgh 5 years ago, and my realtor was showing me adorable 3 bedroom houses in decent (rather nicely diverse) parts of town for under $100,000 I couldn't believe it, perhaps they didn't have roofs? Complete reverse sticker shock.

  17. Were you for the steelers or against them?

The guy in the pic is pretty douchey, so it could go either way.
